WO John Maddocks Age 32 RAOC 1974

I did not know John very well as he arrived just before Hand over.
He was a brave ATO who like all Fleix took that walk alone.
We shall never forget him or his fellow Fleixs they saved many lives .

    We shall never forget them.

He will not be forgotten, a scary job, I know from going on a job with them once, not something I would want to do every day.
Spanners do it with their tools.

I was an RAF Police explosives search dog handler and was present on the day Warrant Officer Maddocks was killed in December 1974 by an I.E.D., on the Irish border. The device was in a milk churn and John was killed when he cut into wires that led into the bomb and detonated the explosives.

John was a cracking guy, an absolute gentleman and a very brave one at that. I have never forgotten him and wish to record my respect and admiration for him here. Rest in peace.

Be who you are and say what you feel...
Because those that matter, don't mind.
And those that mind, don't matter!

WOII John Maddocks was my eldest brother, being 14 years older than me. I was a young Junior Soldier when John was killed and the memory of that day is etched into my memory forever. John was a lovely man, married with three young girls and two brothers. He was quiet, with a great sense of humour and a love of the army and it's way of life.

Thank you for your kindness in remembering my brother, he will never be forgotten, his family is so proud of him.
