While on mobile patrol with a regular officer, they were questioning two men in a car in the early hours near Tadcaster when, without warning, both officers were shot and he was fatally wounded.
Those who fired the shots were an IRA ASU.
Posthumously awarded the Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct.
A memorial stone was erected at the scene by the Police Memorial Trust.

I was a serving Special at the time of Glenn's murder; and I know we were all shocked and devasted by the murder of Glenn. It brought home to us all, how every time a Police Officer, Regular and Special, stops a car they quite literally put their life at risk.
