23 August 1971:
George Crozier, 23-years-old, single and a soldier with the Green Howards holding the rank of Private was killed by the IRA while he was on duty at an observation post in Flax Street. PVT. Crozier was hit in the face by a single high velocity shot fired from the Ardoyne area. An army spokesman said: "fire was not returned at the sniper, who is believed to have fired from the direction of Butler Street, Havana Street". PVT. Crozier was from the tiny hamlet of Cowlam near Driffield in East Yorkshire. High ranking army officers joined around 100 villagers for the funeral.
