      Glenn Thomas Goodman

      Special Constable

      North Yorkshire Police

      Died 7 June 1992, aged 37

While on mobile patrol with a regular officer, they were questioning two men in a car in the early hours near Tadcaster when, without warning, both officers were shot and he was fatally wounded. The males were part of an IRA ASU.

Posthumously awarded the Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct.
A memorial stone was erected at the scene by the Police Memorial Trust.

        WPC Jane Philippa Arbuthnot

        Died 17 December 1983, aged 22

        Sgt Noel Joseph Lane

        Died 17 December 1983, aged 28

        Insp Stephen John Dodd

        Died 24 December 1983, aged 34

All fatally injured in an explosion while investigating a terrorist car bomb.
A warning of the bomb came when a man using an IRA code word telephoned the central London branch of the Samaritans organisation at 12:44. The caller said there were bombs inside and outside Harrods specifying the registration number of the car the device was in, but not its make or colour. Four police officers in a car, a dog handler, and an officer on foot approached the car when the bomb went off. The police car absorbed much of the blast, probably reducing other casualties. Six people were killed, three passers-by (including one citizen of the United States), and three Metropolitan Police officers. Those killed were: Philip Geddes journalist, 24, Kenneth Salvesen 28, Jasmine Cochrane-Patrick 25, Police sergeant Noel Lane 28, and Police constable Jane Arbuthnot 22. Police inspector Stephen Dodd,34, was fatally injured and died 24 December. Police constable Jon Gordon survived, but lost both legs and part of a hand in the blast. The PIRA claimed that the bomb had not been authorised by them.

A former British Army officer, Goad was the senior bomb disposal expert on the scene. Captain Goad, a married man with two children, had been decorated for gallantry while serving in the Army. Captain Goad was 40 years old at the time of his death. His citation was published in the London Gazette of 1 October 1976

Oh my God! So many young lives cut short and for what? So that the perpertrators can be released early without serving the sentences they were lawfully given   .

                      We will remember them.

Slops, it this a Northern Ireland remembrance or is it nationwide? Is there a commemoration ceremony/service?

Merc, not meaning to answer on Slops' behalf, but as it's National Police Memorial Day I think there are memorial Services being held throughout the country. I wouldn't know where they're being held though so I can't help you there.
