    A Coy, 5 UDR

L/Cpl 'Brownie' McKeown, 40, married with 2 children

Brownie was leaving his place of work, Smith's supermarket on the Coleraine Road, Maghera, Co L'derry. His 13-year-old son was with him having also been working, to get himself some extra money for Christmas. Two armed and masked men fired automatic weapons through the windscreen of the car the father and son were sitting in; Brownie was killed, and his son injured by flying glass. The family had just moved into a new house in Maghera.
Brownie had been a member of the battalion for three and a half years.
He was buried at Magherafelt Free Presbyterian Church

Despite years of therapy, Brownie's son never fully recovered from what happened that day.

    Rest in peace, comrade.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brownie was a close friend and comrade of members of my wife's family. I find it hard to believe it has been 25 years.

Those we've lost don't fade away,
They walk beside us every day.

      Never Forgotten.
