  • Royal Scots Soldier killed in Afganistan

A British soldier from The Royal Scots (Borderers) has died after being struck by a rocket-propelled grenade in southern Afghanistan.

A spokesman for Task Force Helmand described the killed soldier as 'inspirational'
The soldier, from the 1st Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, had been serving as part of the Brigade Reconnaissance Force.
He was hit during an operation "that was disrupting insurgents" in the northern Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province.
A spokesman for Task Force Helmand described the killed soldier as "inspirational".
Lieutenant Colonel James Carr-Smith added: "Selfless in the course of his duty he will be missed by his many friends. We will remember him."
The serviceman's next of kin have been informed, the Ministry of Defence said.
His death brings the number of British losses caused by enemy action in Afghanistan since 2001 to 293.
The total number of UK personnel to lose their lives in the operation now stands at 333.
