It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that one soldier from 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellington's) and one soldier from 2nd Battalion The Rifles have been killed in Afghanistan.
The soldiers died as a result of an explosion that happened whilst on a routine foot patrol, not connected to election security, near Sangin, northern Helmand province, on the morning of Thursday 20 August 2009.

          He whom this scroll commemorates
          was numbered among those who,
at the call of Queen and Country, left all
that was dear to them, endured hardness,
faced danger, and finally passed out of
the sight of men by the path of duty
and self-sacrifice, giving up their own
lives that others might live in freedom.
Let those who come after see to it
that their names be not forgotten.

Just for your info chaps, one of them is reported to be the son of **** McAleese of Iranian Embassy Balcony fame. I don't know how true it is, but I do know his son is a serving member of 2 Rifles so I'm trying to use a contact to find out.

                Update:
It is confirmed that Sjt Paul McAleese of 2 Rifles was Killed by an IED in Helmand yesterday... He's just become a Dad. Heartbreaking.

Sgt McAleese, born in Hereford, was then killed in the second explosion while on patrol in Helmand on Thursday.

He is the son of John McAleese, who led the raid that ended the siege on the Iranian Embassy in London in 1980.

From the BBC News Web Site. Confirmed.

                  Sorry Tommo,
                  I cross Posted.

No probs Frenchie, apparently it's a new tactic the Talibs are doing now.. they're using secondary IED's... now doesn't that sound familiar? These IED's are taking a terrible toll, something has to be done to counter the come on's.

                        Tommo,
The last few taken by Secondary IED's really took me back. I wonder who's training the bas%&*ds?
