      Down South

I did a tour "down south" a year after the war, during the same winter months of the war and in some of the worst weather I had ever flown in at the time and even later in Northern Ireland. On mount Adam in a Gazelle the airspeed was showing over 60 knots and we were on the ground! The wind was so strong I could not even open the door. All to deliver one blue airmail envelope to a Signeller. However, the grin on that guys face as I handed it to him was worth all the risk.

This picture come from one originally painted by an RAF guy at Ajax Bay in 1983, it was not quiet finished when I photographed it.
