  • Two soldiers killed in Afghanistan

    Breaking News 5:09pm
    Monday August 31, 2009

Two British soldiers from The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland, have been killed in Afghanistan. Their families have been told.

The soldiers were killed as a result of an explosion that happened whilst on a foot patrol north of Lashkar Gah District, southern Helmand Province.

Their deaths take the total number of deaths of UK service personnel since operations began in 2001 to 210.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel Nick Richardson said: "Everyone in Task Force Helmand is deeply saddened by the deaths of these two brave soldiers.

"While there are no words that can ease their loss, our heartfelt sympathies go to their families, friends and fellow soldiers at this extremely difficult time."

The soldiers' families have been informed and have asked for a 24 hour period of grace before further details are released.

            The Regimental Collect.

O God, whose strength setteth fast the mountains,
Lord of the hills to whom we lift our eyes:
grant us grace that we, of The Black Watch,
once chosen to watch the mountains of an earthly
kingdom, may stand fast in the faith and be strong,
until we come to the heavenly Kingdom of Him,
who has bidden us watch and pray.
Thy Son, our Saviour and Lord.

            Amen

            Rest In Peace.

Just found out that 1 of these guys was best mate of a lad who works in a shop a few doors down from my one, he had just got married and has wee kiddies, the boy is devastated, he has PTSD from his own time in NI as it is and when I saw him this afternoon he was in bad shape, the sooner we get out that place the better.
