    Soldier from The 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers killed.

    It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must confirm that a soldier from The 2nd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers has been killed in Afghanistan.
    The soldier was killed as a result of an explosion that happened whilst on a foot patrol near Sangin, northern Helmand Province, yesterday morning, 19 July 2009.

            2ND BATTALION CASUALTIES

            It is with great sadness that we have to confirm the death of Corporal Joseph Etchells of A Company, 2nd Fusiliers. He was killed in action on Sunday 19 July 2009 in the Sangin Province of Afghanistan whilst under command of 2nd Battalion The Rifles, as a member of a foot patrol ambushed by an improvised explosive device planted by the Taliban. Cpl Etchells was a single man aged 22 from Ashton-under-Lyne.
