NIVA Annual Memorial Service 2009

This years annual memorial service will be held on Saturday 12th September 2009, the service starts at 11.30am

This years service will be held in the ampitheatre which is situated to the rear of the chapel, guests are therefore requested to dress for an outdoor service. The service will be followed by a parade down to the Ulster Ash Grove for the laying of wreaths. The parade will form up for march off at 12.15pm by the Polar Bear near to where the train for the AFM departs.

Following the laying of the wreaths, there will be a 15 minute pause before the parade forums up for the return march to the visitor centre during which the guest of honour will take the salute.

The service is open to all and all associations are welcome to parade thier standards. It would be appreciated if Associations arranging for groups of their members to attend could notify us of numbers and confirm if their standard will be parading.

A reception desk will be manned just inside the visitors centre and we will be only too pleased to give you any assistance or answer any questions. If you have considered joining us, you can bring your documentes with you and have a chat with our membership secretary.

We look forward to welcoming you to our annual memorial service

The NIVA Collect

Almighty and Loving God, who has brought us together in comradeship and remembrance of all who have suffered for the sake of peace in Northern Ireland;
grant us the courage, the strength and the humility to grow in your grace, forgiveness and love,
as we try to honour you and support each other with our memories and our lives,
through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Lest we forget.

Around 30 + NI Vets are taking part. The series will be pro-squaddies; they will tell OUR story and they are good people. I will stake my reputation on this fact. If you are prepared to take part, anonymous or otherwise, please message me ASAP; either through the site or to ken_wharton@hotmail.com Warmest best wishes from Australia. RSF spokesman Richard Walsh would not condemn the killings

The party generally believed to be the political wing of the Continuity IRA has held its first news conference since the recent killings in N Ireland.

Republican Sinn Féin refused to condemn the attacks describing them as regrettable but inevitable "acts of war".

Two soldiers and a policeman were shot dead by dissident republicans earlier this month.

The news conference was called to complain about police raids.

The party's publicity director, Richard Walsh. also used the press conference in Belfast to complain about the detention of suspects at Antrim police station.

Real IRA group in 'conflict' warning

By Mark Devenport
BBC Northern Ireland political editor

The Real IRA's political wing has warned its "conflict" will not end unless Britain renounces its claim to sovereignty over Northern Ireland.

The 32-County Sovereignty Movement issued the statement after the Real IRA murdered two soldiers at Massereene barracks in Antrim last Saturday.

On Tuesday, Sinn Féin's Martin McGuinness stood side by side with Peter Robinson and Chief Constable Sir Hugh Orde at a joint news conference.

No Afghan move for UK Troops
News from around the world

'No Afghan move' for UK troops British and American troops are working alongside Iraqi forces The head of the UK armed forces says British troops serving in Iraq should not be redeployed to Afghanistan. The Chief of the Defence Staff, Air Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup, told the BBC there would be a significant reduction in UK personnel in Iraq by next year. But he warned against US President-elect Barack Obama's idea of sending more troops to Afghanistan, similar to the "surge" in Iraq in 2007. Foreign Secretary David Miliband said the UK did not want an "unfair burden".
